Cu Chi Tunnels proposed for UNESCO World Heritage Site recognition

Information on the plans was released on February 9 by Lam Ngo Hoang Anh, chief of office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports. 

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is scheduled to send the document to the Ministry of National Defense, the National Commission for UNESCO, and the National Council of Cultural Heritage, asking for opinions on a summary report of the scientific dossier of the Cu Chi Tunnels.

The dossier is expected to be submitted to UNESCO in order to introduce the relic site into the list of proposed World Heritage records.

As part of the next phase, Ho Chi Minh City will co-ordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to report to the Prime Minister for permission to work alongside the National Committee of UNESCO to register with the UNESCO World Heritage Center, aiming to put the historical site into the list moving forward.

Cu Chi Tunnels is a network of underground defense tunnels built by locals and resistance forces from 1946 to 1968 in Cu Chi district. 

The tunnels played an important role in major battles, including the Tet Offensive of 1968 and the Great Spring Victory of 1975. over US imperialists.

Vietnamese Dance Team to Participate in Summer Festival in Japan

The Yosakoi Soran festival, one of Japan’s most renowned summer festivals, has been around for more than three decades. Since 1992, the Annual Naruko Festival has been held in Hokkaido at the beginning of June. People celebrate traditional music and dances performed with Naruko, an ancient Japanese percussion instrument. Vietnamese writer shares love of homeland in award-winning English-language book

A dream Mai, originally from Ninh Binh Province in northern Vietnam, wrote “The Mountains Sing” as a way to spread Vietnamese literature and culture by recounting the story of a Vietnamese family’s journey through the twentieth century, including their trials and tribulations during the French Colonial period, the separation of the North and the South, the Vietnam War, and the present day. Bac Ha market in the early days of New Year

Bac Ha market is located approximately 76km away from the centre of Lao Cai province. Tourists can travel by car to the market which is held every Sunday. The first market session of 2023 takes place on January 1 which coincides with New Year celebrations. A couple from Hanoi spends their New Year holiday exploring Bac Ha market for the first time.
